Borned and raised in the East Zone (Zona Leste) of the city of São Paulo, in Braz(s)il, Laura Sono explores her art through many different mediums, being Photography her first love. She obtained a Bachelors in Photography through the University of SENAC in 2008, and since then has explored the intersecion between photography, drawing, writing, tattooing and living in general. She has a very hard time separating herself from art, specially when she has to formally write about what she does and where she has been. Chile, South Africa, Argentina, Uruguai, Tschech Republic and Austria are some of the places where she set foot in, and Brasil, United States and Germany were places where she lived/lives in. Being born to a Bolivian and Japanese family in Brasil, she never really knows her edges, and that is why for her, there is nothing else possible, besides living and exploring the in-betweens.

Starting with the confined pandemic body, our physical matter on this Earth, “Layers” is the starting point of investigation of the human form and its possibilities. Within her own body, Laura explores the visualities of a hyper-body.

During two years, I photographed my aunt’s hands as she went through Alzheimers, and did the same with the hands of my Mother (her sister), while we would go visit my Aunt in the care home.
